Questions about the shows

My mother tongue is German, and that is the language I play all of my shows in. On request – for international guests or corporate events, say – I also perform them in English. Just ask me about it.

An evening usually runs 100 to 120 minutes of playing time, plus an interval. The exact length depends on the show and the format and is agreed beforehand.

Joining in is always voluntary. Most guests experience the evening as onlookers while individual people are drawn in – nobody who would rather not has to come forward. It is worth joining in, though: only those who take part experience with their own thoughts what happens. Everyone else merely watches it from outside and has to take it on trust.

Only if you want to be. Nobody has to come forward who would rather not – joining in is always a voluntary decision.

No. There is no punchline at a guest’s expense – anyone who joins in comes out looking better than before, not worse. And if something does go differently than planned, it is addressed openly rather than glossed over.

No – and that is exactly what makes it interesting. “Mind reading” is the term most people know, but it falls short. What happens on stage is a mixture of trained attention to language, body language and facial expression, of knowing people and of psychology. Sometimes it is about predictions made long before the evening. Sometimes about numbers or facts that nobody should be able to memorise. And sometimes about recognising from a voice, a glance or the smallest of reactions who is telling the truth – and who is not. Nobody involved has supernatural abilities. What it takes is practice, a trained memory and an eye for details that others overlook.

As a rule, no: joining in is voluntary, nobody is shown up, and anyone who would rather watch misses nothing. Reserved guests can enjoy the evening just as easily.

No piece in the Magic, Mind & More series repeats itself – each of the five shows has its own theme and its own effects. A second evening is worth it in any case.

No. The shows are built to work without any previous experience – you do not need to know anything about mind magic to enjoy the evening.

There is no fixed age limit for the shows in the series – unlike the specials, which are recommended from the age of 12 and 16 respectively. Mind magic lives above all off language, perception and small details rather than big visual effects, though, which younger children can quickly find unexciting. As a rule of thumb I suggest an age of around 12 and upwards; in the end you know your child best.

A single piece needs at least one member of the audience. So that the same people are not drawn in for every piece, I recommend a group of around 20 upwards for a complete show from the Magic, Mind & More series. For smaller groups we adapt the show accordingly. There is no upper limit – a larger group simply means a wider choice of people to work with. And if a show is designed specially for you, we go by your actual number of guests anyway.

Yes, within the series they are completely different – no piece is repeated across the five shows currently running side by side. Overlaps exist only with the specials or with shows designed for a particular occasion: those draw on my full repertoire, which is also what the series is fed from.

A stand-alone stage show needs a clearly visible space of at least three by three metres (more is welcome), a headset microphone and a handheld microphone for the guests I work with, plus the means to play in additional audio sources. We settle all the details together in good time before the date.

The shows in the Magic, Mind & More series run as fixed, fully worked-out evenings. By arrangement they can be adapted, though – shortened above all, if the setting of your event calls for it.
